This month, Mana Pacific returned to Suva, Fiji to meet with the Permanent Secretary and their local partners to discuss their solar project for the Yaqara development on the island of Veiniu. The team ended up signing a Memorandum of Understanding to formalize their partnership with the Veiniu Island Development Corporation (VIDC), which is committed to utilizing renewable energy as the primary energy source for the Yaqara development. In support of VIDC’s commitment to achieving this climate-restoring benchmark, Mana Pacific is seeking to develop a solar project that will help VIDC meet their renewable energy goals, provide the most competitive rates to the ratepayers, provide critical energy resiliency in the face of tropical cyclones, and help Yaqara further its energy sovereignty.
With the Yaqara development project potentially being powered completely by renewable energy, VIDC has an opportunity to showcase its leadership and demonstrate effective renewable energy and climate action in Fiji. The Republic of Fiji has long led at the regional and international levels on climate and ocean advocacy. This signed MOU between Mana Pacific and VIDC signifies an intentional and mutual step towards finalizing a signed Power Purchase Agreement that can provide the streamlined project development and financial instruments that its leaders and the rest of the Pacific have been asking for.
