Honorable Katherine Hammack served as the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment (ASA IE&E) under President Obama from June 2010 through January 2017. This responsibility was a culmination of her experience and passion to improve the world for future generations. Among her many accomplishments are the establishment of the Army’s Net Zero program, and the creation of the Army Office of Energy Initiatives (OEI), which works to enhance energy resilience on Army bases with microgrids, energy storage and renewable energy.
Her career began working for Carrier Air Conditioning, followed by work with several electric utilities. She was with Ernst & Young, providing energy and climate change strategy to Fortune 50 companies when called to Washington DC. Having advocated for energy efficiency and sustainability for many years, she helped to found the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and develop LEED. She later worked with the Green Business Certification Inc as a Director of the PEER program for reliability and resilience in power systems and microgrids. Currently she provides consulting services through SC-B Consulting.
An ASHRAE Fellow and Distinguished Service member, Honorable Hammack serves as a Chair of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 189.1 “Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings”. In addition, she participates on the ASHRAE Decarbonization Task Force as the Chair of the working group on Grid Building Intersection.
Honorable Hammack is the past Chair of the Board of Slipstream and continues to serve as board ex-officio.
